Spoken word and original live music — composed together
Since 2017, collaborator-composer JG Everest and I have been building a body of work that treats poetry and music as one thing, not two things happening at the same time. JG writes original pieces specifically for my texts — the music is not accompaniment, it's composition.
The result is immersive in a way that a solo reading or a live band set separately isn't. Audiences describe it as cinematic, arresting, and quietly unlike anything else.
Our "Sound Gardens" collaborations have expanded the format into multi-sensory installations — music and poetry designed around a specific space, for audiences who want something closer to an experience than a show.
Our debut chapbook album,
The Hummingbird's Dance,
recorded at Crazy Beast Studio with engineer Ben Durrant and produced and performed with JG Everest in 2022 is a beautiful look into what our partnership sounds like. Spoken word woven with original compositions — a record that combines poetry and cinematic soundtracks.
Starting at $750
This format involves two artists and more technical requirements than a solo reading — the starting fee reflects that. Travel, venue size, and set length all affect the final number. I'll scope the engagement before quoting.

about the collaborator-Composer

JG Everest
Collaborator · Composer · Musician
JG Everest is a composer and musician based in Minnesota, known for work that sits at the intersection of acoustic composition, ambient sound, and spoken-word collaboration. We began working together in 2017 and have since developed a shared language that makes our live shows feel composed rather than improvised — even when they're not.
His original scores were born from deep engagement with my words — not added after the fact. The music arrives from the same emotional territory the poems do, which is why the two don't fight for space on stage.
He brings acoustic guitar, electronic layering, and an instinct for silence that makes the poetry land harder. JG's musical presence is an integral component of this signature performance—submitting an inquiry through this form books us as a featured duo.
